THE NOW FACTOR!

There are two days in every week that we should not worry about,

Two days that should be kept free from fear and apprehension.

One is YESTERDAY, with its mistakes and cares,

Its faults and blunders, its aches and pains.

YESTERDAY has passed forever beyond our control.

All the money in the world cannot bring back YESTERDAY.

We cannot undo a single act we performed.

Nor can we erase a single word we’ve said – YESTERDAY is gone!

The other day we shouldn’t worry about is TOMORROW,

With its impossible adversaries, its burden,

Its hopeful promise and poor performance.

TOMORROW is beyond our control.

TOMORROW’S sun will rise either in splendor,

Or behind a mask of clouds – but it will rise.

And until it does, we have no stake in TOMORROW,

For it is yet unborn.

This leaves only one day – TODAY.

Any person can fight the battles of just one day.

It is only when we add the burdens of ,

YESTERDAY and TOMORROW that we break down.

It is not the experience of TODAY that drives people mad,

It is the remorse of bitterness for something,

Which happened YESTERDAY,

And the dread of what TOMORROW may bring.

Let us, therefore, LIVE ONE DAY AT A TIME!

LIVE FOR NOW, TODAY!!

Hi Everyone :-) – I hope you all had a great weekend!

For many, weekends are the most challenging 2 days of the week.  I thought I would share the poem above as I am sure it will resonate with many of you in different ways.

Consider this ….. we wake up each day with let’s say 100 units of energy for the day. By dwelling on the mistakes and challenges of yesterday & worrying about the possibilities of what might or might not happen tomorrow, you could use up so many of those 100 units, that you won’t have many units left to embrace the opportunities that might present themselves TODAY.

How many opportunities have passed you by, simply because you just didn’t have the energy to explore them?

How often do you beat yourself up about errors in judgement? Can you go back and change your actions or the consequences. Is there ANYTHING you can do to change what happened yesterday, this morning or even a few minutes ago? NO!  So I have to ask the question then …. Why waste your energy allocation for the day on something that you can’t change? So you cheated …. Not ideal but it happened! By dwelling on it and beating yourself up over it, are you using your energy smartly and efficiently?  Very often this is when we sabotage all our weight loss efforts and the negative, self sabotaging inner talk starts.  So make a new choice today, to embrace and own the errors in judgement, store the lessons learnt and MOVE ON!

Another question ….. how often do you worry and get yourself into a state over something that hasn’t even happened yet? The mind can be your greatest asset but also your greatest enemy – that is if YOU ALLOW your imagination to run riot. I have often wondered how come I always managed to conjure up the worst case scenarios instead of imagining the best case scenarios and focussing on that!  “What if this happens”,” that could go wrong”, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH  ……. And I would worry myself into a complete state ……. FOR WHAT! More often than not, the worst never came to pass and I had exhausted myself worrying! SILLY, SILLY and a complete waste of energy!

So, you have to go to a training course or conference – with a little pre planning and preparation, this can just be another day and you can come through it with flying colours and with your weight loss integrity in tact! I did it many times over the 3 months I was on the Challenge and eventually it just became the norm and was no longer a BIG DEAL!

I have learnt over the years, that to get the most out of every day, I must make optimal use of my 100 units of energy for TODAY!

I can’t change yesterday and tomorrow will have its own challenges ……… SO …….

Slender Debs wishing you all a successful weight loss week ….. chat soon! xxxx
